Almost at the Southern point of Negros Oriental, in the municipality of Zamboanguita, is Thalatta Resort, perfectly located for access to the best diving in the Dauin area.
One of the first things that guests may notice after their warm reception welcome at Thalatta Resort, is the well maintained garden full of tropical flowering plants, ferns, palm trees and leafy bushes. These provide a cooling mini haven with natural shady areas as well as privacy between rooms and the pool area. Despite being less than an hour from Dumaguete city, it is easy to feel relaxed and at ease here.
The bungalows and rooms at Thallata Resort, which are situated around the pool, are roomy and well appointed. Each room has air-con, comfortable king or twin beds, mini bar, cable TV, 220v power sockets and spacious western style bathrooms with solar heated hot water shower.
The restaurant overlooks the pool area and seafront with a view out to Apo Island and is well laid out allowing for sufficient space even when fully booked. The a la carte menu offers a good variety of local and international dishes that are well cooked and always served hot. The friendly staff and experienced Swiss chef Daniel provide a great service with experience in assisting guests with special meal requests.
Thalatta Resort is further south than the majority of dive resorts in the region and this is a great advantage for divers for two reasons. First, it is very close to one the best dive sites in the area – Apo Island – about 30 minutes away. And second, there are very few other diver operators that dive around Zamboanguita, so chances are guests will not see any other divers on the Thalatta house reef and other sites like Basak and Malatapay, which are both excellent macro/muck dives.
The dive centre set up is well organised with plenty of space for kitting up and storing your dive gear, as well as good sized rinse tanks. There is nitrox available and separate classroom space for those doing any number of the scuba diving courses available. Thallata Dive Centre has two local style ‘banca’ dive boats which are both spacious and fast, taking you to the popular dive sites in Dauin with comfort and speed.
